Julie Dant Poems

I thought I sensed your presence
In the sultry southern night
Was it you? Were you there?
...

If only I could go
travel back to when
life was oh, so simple
then.
...

As I stood upon the brink of life
And looked into the murky depths
I knew my soul would soon be lost
If I took just one more faltering step
...

Gnarled Black Walnut trees
Bared of leaves
Stark against metal sky
...

In a darkening woods
a tree stands...separate...
as if to say 'I shall not blend.'
...

Changes....
they are not welcome
I have so much trouble accepting
I fight against them 'till I am weary
...

They stand alone- stark and forgotten
Forlorn and sad and slowly fading
I am reminded of old times past
And of the memories that lie awaiting.
...

Wood and stone or flesh and bone... in the end nature wins.
A creeper vines crookedly up the old stones …
upon which it depends.
Gnarled old hands reach up to give a caress to the fresh young leaves
...

I've been craving your sweetness
I drank you melted into my coffee this morning.
And carried you with me all the day long.
I can feel you there swimming gently in my head.
...

In the long shadows of my life, as yet another
day spent itself, settling softly down for it’s
impending nocturnal rest, I was in contemplation
of my journey…my sojourn…my never ending
...

Never had he spoken of what they saw
He’d held it back- his emotions raw
Until this day when it came to pass
He found the name etched in black glass
...

Softly Winter Lies

Softly
the hard winter lies.
...

So….when I need you……
What am I supposed to do?
Must I reach across Orion?
Must I hurdle the moon?
...

The ravishment is thorough…
Utterly encompassing.
Nothing is left untouched.
...

I love you.
I want you.

I want you to love me
...

In the aftermath….
I lie cradled still in your arms
Languid
Satiated
...

Teetering here
Upon the brink
Of lofty self-delusion
...

“Silence is hovering above the Atlantic.”
he tells her.
“Hush...hush darling! ” he tries to
calm her.
...

Soulmates, we
a melding of two
Never physically to know
This whole life through
...

The starkness of white upon the green
The paper is crisp. Crisp and clean
A rustle of wind- a flutter of pages
Words written down- never to be seen
...

Was It You?

I thought I sensed your presence
In the sultry southern night
Was it you? Were you there?

Was the breeze I felt upon my cheek
Your breath as you breathed a sigh?
Was it you?

I thought I heard you murmer
Among the moss draped oaks
Were you there?

Were you walking right beside me
Along that dusty moonlit road?
Were you?

I thought you made me shiver
One more time with just your touch.
Did you?

I thought I felt the pressure
Of your fingers upon my lips.
Was that you?

I f I had reached out quick enough
Would you have had to stay?
Would you?

High above these old live oaks
Are you watching over me?
Is it you? Are you there?
