If I Could

If I could, I would always keep you from harm
If I could, I would drive away the darkness with commanding light
If I could, I would storm your prison with triumphant shout and take you home.
If I could, I would wash away your scars with my tears.
If I could, I would make it all undone.
If I could...

You took me in and made me your own.
You rejoiced over me with love and laughter
You guided, loved and protected me.
Your love gave me strength and courage in the deepest darkness, and led me, like a homing dove, back to your door, and into your arms.
Our tears have been washing and cleansing for us both.
Things done cannot be undone,
But things not yet done can still be done.
Deeds of love and courage are waiting!
In the judging-halls of the universe, light, truth, and the love of a father will always have the last word.
Always.
