Goodness

Goodness
A poem about enriching your life with goodness inspired by Ancient Greek Wisdom

Oh! Goodness, you fill my mind
Helping my soul easily unwind
Showing me new ways to live
Granting me spiritual gifts to give

You're the only virtue
I wish to quietly bear
You're the only value
I challenge all to dare

For goodness bestows you with humility
To withstand life's horrendous audacity
And overcome fortune's severe austerity
To quickly reach the Elysian fields of tranquility

For goodness leads you to harmonious universality
As it interconnects you with Nature's divinity
By energizing the waves of your creativity
While transforming your existential possibility

For to be good makes your life divine
Making you drink from society's sweet wine
A cup or two every laboring time
Allowing also all to participate and dine

Always taking into deep consideration the following ancient Greek wise sayings:

1. By Diotima, High Priestess (as quotes in Plato's symposium) : ‘Socrates, we can say without hesitation, that all people love to acquire and possess what is good';
2. By Democritus: ‘Good means not merely to do wrong, but rather not to desire to do wrong';
3. By Epictetus: ‘It takes more than just a good looking body. You've got to have the heart and soul to go with it';
4. By Plato: ‘Divinity is beauty, wisdom, goodness and everything that is the same with these';
5. By Sappho (probably the best ancient Greek poetess) : ‘He who is fair to look upon is good, and he who is good will soon be fair also';
6. By Seven Sages: ‘Keep the politeness and goodness of your character more faithful than your oath'; and
7. By Zeno of Citium (father of stoicism) : ‘In the life of an individual man, virtue is the sole good; such things as health, happiness, possessions, are of no account. Since virtue resides in the will, everything really good or bad in a man's life depends only upon himself'.
