When we speak about our Classic Poet's, even our Contemporary literary icons, we tend to live in the past, and in doing so, depriving our literary thirsts in acknowledging what is out there right here & now for our imbibement. Poe, Dickinson, Donne, Wordsworth...yes, but of course, these are indeed some of the many olde-guarde ''''Cream of the Crop'', with the proverbial cherry atop quillers!
But what about today? All too often i hear or read myriad contradictory messages that either poetry is dead, dying, out-to-lunch...or, yes, re-surging once again. Well, which is it? My take is fairly simple...Today's market for literature in general and poetry specifically has been abused and scathed by the acceptance of requirement-free, ''no-holds-barred'' scribbling...and then calling it poetry because the author of the scribble says it is. Abstractivity & inovative concept is good, or i should say...''Can be good, great, even brilliant''.However, as in almost anything else in life, their must be some finite standards, as well as guidelines to accompany those standards if in fact poetry can be Lazarusized. In short...Different is fine, if it compliments the best interests of the eloquence of poetry, and what made poetry so socially & culturally impacting, for thousands of years....Just read the Bible!
Over the past 4 years i have read & read & read over again the gravitating work of Poet and Novelist, Joe Fazio.Over decades of years, Mr Fazio has written a vast collection of poetic pen-gems that define eloquence & poetic-principle. Unfortunately, his contributions to this particular site (poemhunter.com) thus far has been limited to only 68 examples of (what i call) ''Contempo-Classic Poetry''. Joe's capturing blend of warm, old-time romance and modern day expression /delivery is a outright testament to how poetry & music are as threaded & entwined as the ethereal is with the celestial.
Much of todays poetics is jaded by overkill & gratuitous abstrusity.Complex or mercurial expression is fine if one is writing Mystery, or for whatever reason the author wants to pull their audience through a teasing, ruse-laced tell-tale. Joe Fazio has astutely mastered the artistic blending of simplicity & sophistication, in architecting a style that is both reader-friendly (pleasing to the eyes) , and emotion-tapping. In addition, through his subtle, yet resplendent employment of pictorial, and mataphoric depiction, he takes his artistry to his Readers Minds-Eye which is what enables avid Readers of Litrerature to virtually experience the 5 human senses through image & well-scripted detail. A jaunt to the poem-pages of Joe Fazio has, is & will always be a treat to this Writers eye's. You will understand what i am talking about here, if after reading this, you too take the time to enconce yourself in the stunning work of ''The Best of Joe Fazio'', as i highly recommend him and his work...Do Enjoy!
