Joanne Teague Poems

Beguiling eyes. Stains of wretchedness.
A stone-cold disguise. Facades of decadence.

No wonder we only exist.
...

This ray of light your seeing's
a spotlight that's deceiving
you into thinking
there's no
...

As the day ends,
and the night fades in...
As the moon shines,
and there's gentle wind...
...

It's tucked in your bed,
where you've wound this thread,
Sown into cavities
where hearts do beat.
...

A serenade
for the remains
of a love
so tragically
...

The path suddenly narrows,
as it is revealed,
so clearly
that unconditional love
...

He is the spark of every beginning,
and the shadow of every end.
The sentinel. The door.
The moment to defend.

You Only Exist

Beguiling eyes. Stains of wretchedness.
A stone-cold disguise. Facades of decadence.

No wonder we only exist.

Empire of lies. The bondage we resist.
Existential crisis. Be careful of your wish.

No wonder we only exist.

Mistranslating metaphors.
Giving way to holy wars.
A long-forgotten parable.
Is this what the anguish is for?

No wonder we only exist

You're alive to live
but apparently you've missed
the point of this
Defined by your sins.

If for once you would
just stop and listen.
Instead, you run your lips.
Look inside.
Breathe in life.
Climb the vines &
Leave behind
selfish wantonness.

But if you spuriously live
by what is held and seen -
have never walked against harsh winds,
then you've never really lived.

No wonder you only exist.
