Your Act

Surrounded by people yet alone
You try to find comfort through your phone
If they think you chose to be isolated
They won't know how much you are hated
Not by other people but by yourself
Because you can not reach the top shelf
You can't focus anymore
You stare at the floor
Trying not to make eye contact
If you do it will ruin your act
Everyone will know who you really are
A girl who has given herself scars
Hurting herself so know else could
Burning her skin like it was wood
Yet no one knows
This isn't the life she chose
She was given these fights
In her eyes there are no more lights
No hope for better days
Silently she prays
Asking God to help her win
To help her defeat all of her demons
To escape the darkness of her own mind
To herself help her to be more kind
She wants to be strong
Wants so badly to belong
She starts to take meds
No longer is she accepted
She refuses to be
She just can't see
How anyone could accept her
Her head begins to stir
She just can't think why anyone would
How anyone could
But she decides to try
Try and understand how and why
How anyone could
And why anyone would
One thing you don't see
Is that this girl is me
