J. D. Martin Poems

Worthy are you, Lord of Praise
But Ah! It’s void in me
My aching heart I pray you raise
I give it all to thee
...

By night with others sound asleep
They all had peace and rest.
My waking eyes were open wide
To lie I found it best.
...

In pain I sought the Lord of Life
When nothing could comfort give
And when my soul these things abhorred
Christ said come forth and live
...

Love gave me welcome, yet my soul drew back,
I’m filthy, I’m dirty from sin
But tender-eyed Love, who knew my soul was black
Drew nearer and pulled me in.
...

Hear me O my Lord
Please come heal my aching cry.
My lips are free from evil
But there is darkness in my eye.
...

If you keep on sinning
You're not saved the pastor cries.
But we are not saved by works
The pastor as quickly denies
...

We have a God
Who spoken to our fathers
At various times and various ways
He spoken through the prophets word
...

Oh words oh words
I can speak you for days.
How different you can be
Diversity marks all your ways.
...

Are we worthy are we worthy
Is how the Mormon heart beat goes.
The thought of hell is no worry
To be a god is the goal.
...

Bright star, would I call thee
As you shine upon my heart.
Not alone your upon me
I was alone in the dark.
...

You may write him out of history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may tread him in the very dirt
But still, like dust, He'll rise.
...

All the world is a stage,
And All men and women play their part
They have their exits and their entrances,
But they can't escaped the evil of their heart
...

O Joseph Joseph how do I undo your great work?
The Mormon church you alone did birth.
You told God’s people, come follow after me.
You’re the prophet with the visions despite your polygamy.
...

Come, Creator Spirit blessed,
And in our souls take up Your rest;
Come with grace and heavenly aid,
and fill the hearts which You have made.

J. D. Martin Biography

I am a dedicated Christian saved by the grace of God. I was a chief sinner, a lover of self, but God rescued me from the hand of Satan. I now as a servant of God try to put to death the misdeeds of the flesh. I fail often but rise again to fight another day. I formally earned a B.S in Theology and informally audited a Master of Religion worth of Seminary courses. I mention this only so the reader can understand how my theology has developed. I have spent time teaching, doing apologetics, studying theology, and now I am writing poetry. I am merely trying to benefit the kingdom of God. Some of my poem are original, meaning I was not inspired by an already completed poem. Many others I have used yesterday's poet's both Christian and nonbelievers poems and revised them, rewrote than, or simply took a line from them. The amount of adaptation varies from each poem but I have included the name and author of each poem that I have used in this way. My goal here is not to be original or a glory seeker. My goal is simply to bless the reader and cause their soul to love the savior more.)

Birthing Christ In Our Generation

Worthy are you, Lord of Praise
But Ah! It’s void in me
My aching heart I pray you raise
I give it all to thee

My heart is dark, but you are light
I can’t approach my God
I’m sick O Lord, I need your grace
But I’m fearful of your rod

My flesh is weak, My spirit is strong
I hate this man in me
I cannot win this battle
But you will eternally

You’ll save this soul, You’ll cleanse me off
You’ll kill this wretch in me
I’ll be your bride, I’ll be renewed
Beautiful for eternity

Why should I live but for your praise
My life is hidden in thee
O Lord no longer be my days
Let Christ shine forth in me

O Mary Mother of the Lord
Let us sing together in Joy
We've given birth to Glory
The heavenly Anointed Boy

You birthed him in Jerusalem, two thousand years ago
He’s spiritually birthed in me as well
Regeneration’s goal

My life is lost, his life is found
I've vanished in his stead
I am now the Lord’s body
And he’s its glorious head

Christ be born in me I pray
Kill this devil deep inside
I want my friends to see your face
Not Adam as he hides
