Colors

Atop the red earth with bare feet,
Practicing culture associated with the black skin.
Underneath the blue sky, with eyes brown,
Like a leaf withered, fallen off it's niche.

This would be my heritage, unmistaken like the red oil...
I pride myself in thoughts that left me blue.
For it'd be gold to know my roots,
I'm like a chameleon turned grey for adaptation, but green is forever my color.

It started way back in Africa, beauty enslaved by the whites.
Thrown upon a yellow vessel, shipped across the blue sea.
Hunger and pain left her destitute of hope.
The white clouds birthed tears out of empathy.
The wind grew furious of her treatment.

Beauty beaten blue black by crewmen on vile orders.
Her branches of the family tree fed to the fishes as a result of yellow fever.
Ashore and sold to a drunk yellow merchant, who left her red petals on the sheets.
Eventually her womb swelled with a foetus.

Salty deltas formed around her chin, and froze as white snow beneath her feet.
Her back stiffened from whips and palms hardened than a rock.
On crumbs she fed yet the foetus grew bigger.
Till she put to bed the prettiest little thing.

Years raced past, generations decayed by red earth.
My black brothers leave paradise for grasses greener.
Seeking hustle to liberate them from sight into a world of darkness.
Or maybe I am the one so green with envy I loathe their presence.

For they set foot upon my adopted home,
Unappreciative of their identity like Oranges trying to turn Lemons.
So here I am, heart spilling emotions like
Black oil.
Intoxicating my every thought for the motherland.
