    SLO NightWriters 25th Annual Writing Contest
    The 2014 Golden Quill Awards

    Short Story/Memoir – 1,000 word maximum; Poetry – 40 line maximum
    Entries must include the words ‘Déjà vu’ and depict the theme.
    Entry Fee: $15 per entry, multiple entries are allowed in both categories
    Prizes: $750 – First Prize, $400 – Second Prize, for each category, plus Honorable Mentions

    The McLellan Poetry Prize 2014

    Closing date: 30 June 2014
    Details: for poems up to 80 lines. Judge Michael Laskey.1st prize £1000,2nd £300,3rd £100 and six commendations of £25. All prizewinners will be invited to read at the award ceremony in Brodick, Isle of Arran on 29 August 2014.

    Contests for Blue Lyra Review

    (1) The Blue Lyra Longish Poem Prize – one poem of 2-6 pages, or 2-6 pages of strongly linked shorter poems. Judge: Andrew McFadyen-Ketchum, author of Ghost Gear. $9 per entry, $15 with anthology. May 1 – June 30.

    (2) The Living Earth Creative Nonfiction Prize – 5000 word maximum and must be about nature. Judge: Sharman Apt Russell, author of Standing in the Light: My Life as a Pantheist and Diary of a Citizen Scientist. Guidelines online & Submittable link.     Three prizes of $1,000 each and publication in Bellevue Literary Review are given annually to a poet, a fiction writer, and a creative nonfiction writer for works about health, healing, illness, the body, and the mind. Major Jackson will judge in poetry, Chang-rae Lee will judge in fiction, and Anne Fadiman will judge in creative nonfiction. Using the online submission system, submit up to three poems totaling no more than five pages or up to 5,000 words of prose with a $20 entry fee (a $30 entry fee includes a subscription to Bellevue Literary Review) by July 1.     Tufts Poetry Awards

    The $100,000 Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award is given annually to honor a book of poetry by a midcareer U.S. poet. The winner spends one week in residence at Claremont Graduate University in California. The $10,000 Kate Tufts Discovery Award is given annually to honor a first book of poetry by " a poet of genuine promise." Poets, publishers, agents, or friends may submit eight copies of a book of poetry published between September 1,2013, and June 30,2014, with a list of previously published work by July 1.     Crab Orchard Series in Poetry
    First Book Award

    A prize of $2,500, publication by Southern Illinois University Press, and a $1,500 honorarium to give a reading at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale is given annually for a poetry collection. U.S. poets who have not published a book of poems of over 48 pages in an edition of over 500 copies are eligible. Brian Barker will judge. Using the online submission system, submit a manuscript of 50 to 75 pages with a $28 entry fee, which includes a subscription to Crab Orchard Review, between May 15 and July 8.
