    The Fresher Writing Prize 2015

    Closing date: 8th March,2015.
    Prizes: These are designed to help new writers get their work more widely recognized and include: a one-to-one with a top literary agent; personal advice on taking your own book to market; a professional podcast and a rehearsed reading of your script. Plus a free theatre pass; book vouchers and more! The final shortlist will see their entries published in the Fresher Writing 2015 anthology, and will be special guests at the book's launch and Fresher Writing Awards, held in Bournemouth at the end of May.
    Entry fee: £5 per entry.

    There are various categories to enter, from the short story to poetry and scriptwriting to creative non-fiction. Every entry will be carefully assessed by the judging panel, and the final decisions will be made by influential figures from the publishing world, including Gemma Rostill from Penguin, literary agent Madeleine Milburn, author Claire Fuller and publishing consultant Ed Peppit.

    York Literature Festival / YorkMix Open Poetry Competition 2015

    Prizes: £400, £100, £50 (and a prize of £40 to the best York entry, excluding the first, second or third prize winners) . Highly Commended and Commended certificates will also be awarded at the discretion of the judge, multi-award-winning poet Carole Bromley, Poet in Residence at YorkMix.com. All prize-winning, Commended and Highly Commended poems will be featured on YorkMix.com website, and poets invited to read their work at the prize-giving event on Saturday, March 28,2015, at York St John University. Poets may enter as many batches of entries as they wish. Poems may be in any form, but no longer than 40 lines.

    HAD Poetry Competition

    The title for the poem is 'Honouring the Ancient Dead' (a celebration of the ancestors on display up and down the country - perhaps acknowledging their continuing place within the community) . However, the theme may be interpreted as loosely as the entrant wishes. Free to enter.

    The Society of Civil and Public Service Writers

    Prizes: 1st £50; 2nd £25. Poems should not be more than 40 lines, with each poem on a separate sheet. Entries should be typed on A4 paper. The competition is open only to SCPSW members. Those eligible include serving or retired members of the Civil Service, Armed Forces, National Health Service, Local Government, the Police Force or any Public Service.
    £2 per poem.
    All entries should bear only the name of the competition being entered, a title, the author's pen name and a separate sheet quoting: the name of the competition being entered, pen name, title, real name and address.

    Tethered by Letters' Winter Poetry Contest

    We are currently accepting poetry submissions of all genres and styles—from traditional form to free verse. Length requirements are no more than three pages per poem, single-spaced with double spacing between stanzas. The poetry contest winner will be published as the featured poem in the Fall 2015 Quarterly Journal. Three finalists will be considered for subsequent quarterly journal publications or a TBL monthly poetry feature. Each finalist will also receive free professional edits on their submission. International submissions welcome.

    Deadline: February 28,2015
    Prize: $150 and publication in the quarterly journal

    Christopher Tower Poetry Competition 2015 open for all UK 16-18 year olds.

    Judges Ian McMillan, Helen Mort and Peter McDonald.
    Prize-giving will be on Monday 20th April 2015 at Christ Church, Oxford.
    Festival Winners & runners-up will be invited to read their winning poems at the prizegiving.
    Winning and longlisted poems will be published on the Tower Poetry website
    First Prize £3,000 Second £1,000, Third £500 3-4 commended prizes of £250.
    Prizewinners' schools receive £150 each.
