    SLAMbassadors UK 2014 (For entrants Aged 12-18)

    Poetry Society's national youth slam championships.
    Theme: Identity.
    Judges: A panel of artists including Kate Tempest.
    The 6 final winners will be invited to London to attend a master class led by poet Joelle Taylor, before performing a debut professional set at the Royal Festival Hall on October 31st. Open to all 12-18 year olds resident in England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales.

    Exiled Writers Ink Free Poetry Competition

    Exiled Writers Ink presents the poetry competition for UK refugees, asylum seekers and exiles.
    Free entry.
    Prizes:
    First prize: £400 plus assessment of winner's poetry collection by The Literary Consultancy.

    Amy Lowell Poetry Traveling Scholarship

    An award of approximately $54,000 is given annually to a U.S. poet for a year of travel and study abroad. Submit two copies of either 40 pages of poetry or a published book and 20 pages of poetry, two copies of a curriculum vitae, and two copies of the required entry form by October 15.     Fellowships for Creative Writers

    Fellowships are given annually to poets, fiction writers, and creative nonfiction writers for monthlong residencies at the American Antiquarian Society in Worcester,
    Massachusetts, to research pre-twentieth-century American history and culture. A stipend of $1,350 and on-campus housing is provided; fellows residing off-campus receive $1,850. The fellowships support research for creative work that informs the general public, such as historical poems and novels. Residencies may take place any time in 2015. Submit 10 copies of up to 25 pages of poetry or prose, a five-page project proposal, a résumé, and two letters of recommendation (sent directly to AAS by the references) by October 5.     A prize of $500 and publication in Spark: A Creative Anthology will be given quarterly for a poem, a short story, or a personal essay on a theme. The winner will also receive a lifetime membership to Scribophile; a one-year subscription to Duotrope; and a one-year subscription to either American Poetry Review, Poets & Writers Magazine, or the Writer, provided by Spark. The contest theme is " Monsters and Marvels."     Contribute to a Los Angeles Times Feature on Poetry

    The Los Angeles Times travel section is asking poetry lovers across the U.S., Canada and abroad to send in their favorite poems related to travel, along with a brief explanation of why they like them- -whether it’s Kipling on India, Wordsworth on England's Lake District, Sandburg on Chicago, Elizabeth Bishop on Brazil, or Frost on rural New Hampshire, etc. The most interesting poems and feedback received will be included in a feature in the section. Along with your full name, phone and email, send the titles of favorite travel poems or excerpts, and why you like them, to: travel@latimes.com Please put " Travel Poetry" in the subject line, and pass the word along to others you think might be interested.
