A Michaelle, I've never understood why poetry is the one art form people undertake without any training or study, as if ignorance is a poetic virtue. From your poems, I gather you don't read poetry, and if you do, you read only your amateur contemporaries' work or bad poetry published before 1950. Your poems are pretty horrible. You don't know how meter works, how to rhyme gracefully, how to express your thought/feelings fluently. STOP WRITING! ! Immerse yourself in good contemporary poetry, read books like Paul Fussell's " Poetic Form and Poetic Meter, " and take a poetry writing class at a nearby college. Do all these things if you're truly interested in becoming a better poet instead of posing as one.

    Hello Mr. Carter,

I am not sure if you are just being mean. I don't know if you read my poetry or not because there is no comments from you. I am willing to take constructive criticism if you are willing to offer. I see that you have suggested a book for me to read. and I will gladly read it. I read some of your poetry and your free verse left me a little confused about what you were describing. Yes I like to rhyme in my poetry I have found that easier for me to write although I am able to write free verse. A lot of people that I have worked with and from the poems that I have had published the preference seems to be with rhyme and structure. I have put a couple of free verse on my page and would greatly appreciate it if you would read and give me some constructive criticism of them and not be so vague. Thank you for you response.

A, I'll look at your free verse poems and comment on their pages. I'm not being mean, just trying to respond appropriately to what I see as poetic floundering. Saying stop writing for a while and st ... more
