It's National Fish And Chip Week, let's celebrate with style
let's pig out on a Lake District peak or Blackpool's golden mile.
Ask for them in paper, not those poxy plastic trays,
drenched in salt and vinegar, the tang and taste amaze.
Eat them quick or eat them slow, but finish every scrap
... (for if the bag is saturated, they might end in your lap?)
Crunchy cod or haddock, now to some it doesn't matter
while for others it's a bother. Sausage? With or without batter?
And don't forget the other fare that chippies have to tempt us there
the pickled eggs and onions and the pies we like to share.
The curried sauce and gravy and those famous mushy peas
Chop Suey rolls which top the polls, for holding the most grease?
But please respect tradition and desist from this strange trend,
the practise of deep-frying Mars Bars, is something which should end!
It started off in Scotland but you now can find them here
They fill your poor wee belly so you can't drink enough BEER.
Sacrilege! !

Delicious fare, Danny....and I'm so glad the much-welcomed finny delicacies have swum their way across the pond to us...yum...cod and haddock, indeed, yes! ! We drive up the Mendocino coast to get the best-prepared lovelies in a no-frills place tottering on a hill just outside the little town of Bodega Bay...touristy spot, but worth the beautiful and somewhat lengthy drive to satisfy the fish/crunch hunger....
and, to add, it is also International Spoonerize a Friend's Name Week...not to be confused with the celebrated Spell a Friend's Name Backwards Month...best one I can remember is my first husband's third wife's thusly-tinkered name: Arabrab Snrub...

    Love, D.
