Emily Wang Poems

You're 5.
You hold your mom's hand as you walk across the street
and your mom says
don't look.
...

This is my apology letter
I'm sorry
I should've known better.
But I was young.
...

I spent half of my life wanting to be like them,
when really all alone I could'be been me.
I could've been free,
but the red line across beautiful couldn't cut it.
...

I'll never be perfect,
it's just a thought.
I'll never be loved,
pain is never forgot.
...

O ocean,
please don't wash my footprints away from the sand.
I want to make a mark in this world,
just give me one chance.
...

It's time my depression teaches me a lesson,
life is too short to worry,
so I better hurry,
before the gate closes,
...

Please, take me into your arms,
and cure my lovesick heart.
Just hold my hand,
one last time.
...

Why do shackles exist in the land of the free?
Why does everyone dislike me?
Try to change me into something called 'normal'
ew, don't touch me, i might catch normal
...

The girl looks in the broken mirror
shatterd glass laying across the floor
her dreams are fragments
each peice of glass
...

Age 2- a happy time.
i remember nothing of age 2.
faint blurs perhaps.
i recall smiling.

Understand Age 5

You're 5.
You hold your mom's hand as you walk across the street
and your mom says
don't look.
Out of curiosity
you take a peek behind you.
You don't understand.
You're all grown up now
you know reality is painful
and life is hard to hold on to.
You walk across the street alone
you're not that same curious child again.
You understand what you mom was trying to protect you from at age 5.
