Ellonah Varela Poems

A sad smile broke upon a sensual lips,
Lifted the wine glass, took a few sips,
Tremors shook the gorgeous fingertips,
As the music blinds time as it slips.
...

Just let me sit here,
Stare at you from somewhere,
Let my heart beat without a care,
With all the love that I can't share.
...

Where to go, I asked,
How and where, and what is my task?
Am I to hide and wear a mask,
To blend in well till my time reached dusk?
...

Drawn, that was I,
Your image locked in my eye,
From my lips slipped a sigh,
As all thoughts have gone to fly.
...

At this young an age I set off to find,
A meaning so well defined,
By a song, a melody of a love in mind,
With a passion, untamed and wild.
...

Oh, 'tis shame, all the more a tragedy,
When a world of imaginary,
Comes better than reality,
That reality is naught but a lie, however we refused to see.

The Wallflower

A sad smile broke upon a sensual lips,
Lifted the wine glass, took a few sips,
Tremors shook the gorgeous fingertips,
As the music blinds time as it slips.

The crowd prance,
Partners dance,
At the corner however, trembled an Angel's hands,
As the veiled lover's eyes seemed to her not to advance.

Why, a wallflower was what she was,
Admiring eyes to her just pass,
Unnoticed was the allure, the beauty she has,
She does not flaunt, not vulgar to the mass.

What the grand ton misses,
Is the carefree comeliness,
But who would blame them this blindness,
If of it, even the beholder lacked awareness.

Flimsy though is the beauty,
For deep within lies a spirit of strong dignity,
An Angel more than worthy,
Of a capricious affinity.

A rareness such as she,
Has her story written by no one but the Almighty,
That it would take a gentleman as special as she,
To claim her his for all the world to see.
