Darrin McMiller Jr. Poems

Ask yourself,
How many lies we shared together?
How many secrets we kept apart?
Keeping broken hearts intact
...

After he heard the shatter
He took a step back,
And realized his dream was just a single shard
Amongst thousands of his blessings
...

I wrote this after getting an amazing smile from a beautiful girl, and as well intentioned as it was I could just tell she was smiling to keep from crying or at the very least having one of those days...

I can read you
Your pain is written in your lines
...

When what you know, no longer is
And what you once believed is in question
You go into a molten state
There is a new fire inside of you
...

After the smoke clears
We gone burn it up some more
We gone drench gasoline with burning gasoline
And aint gone leave until the smoke fills
...

Sky’s the limit when you limit yourself
Mine is endless, in my eternal mind
I’m a word rebel, a freedom writer
A supplier of hope, a dealer of dreams
...

Dressed to Impress
We judge by our attire
More than our entirety
Defined by stylish stitches
...

Faith is like a single
Drop of water on the window

Formed from condensation
...

I'm the richer, among these thieves
A mighty gem, scattered the world over
A world overlord, looking over the waters
For beyond these shores I'm assured to own others
...

This is the game of life
But this aint a game
It's play or be played
So player beware
...

What more do you want
You can’t have anything else
I know my love overflows
But it’s never enough
...

I'm not sure if I was ever in love,
Or maybe I was, the truth is
It's hard to love or be in love
When the only girl that you ever loved, unsure
...

Out of Shame
I walked a million miles
With no aim
At world's end
...

Inspired by someone I love, who didn't love me...

Love sickness,
And the depths thereof is an endless vault
...

The rise of expectation
The tide of disappointment
It hits,
Continuous
...

A Slave
To my imagination,
Though I'm creative
...

I watched people work hard for cash
Making $20 dollars a day
With only 25 cent bags of chips
And lil huggies reaching their mouths
...

Emotions shifting
Motion sickness
The motions of the world
Exploding with its devotion to the dollar
...

Holding the universe at the end of my ball point
It’s like my heart talked and my hands just listened,
Then walked gently down the page
Like strolling pass the stage the graduation
...

Natural mystics, understand
Everything has a reason
An origin,
Often related to the powers of the time

Darrin McMiller Jr. Biography

Born and raised on the southside of Chicago, I'm a Senior at Grambling State University and I will be graduating with a bachelor's degree in English. During a time I didn't have a consistent circle of friends and I wasn't talking to anyone, I started writing poems when I was a sophomore in High School. Basically I wasn't expressing myself, and much less living. I decided to sit down in my room, look in the mirror, and try to figure out who I was. I choose poetry as the best way to do that. Just like it was when I started writing I continue to express myself and the world around me, and in that process I really find out what I think and who I am. I'm always optimistic, and always pushing to new heights.I'm open to comments, advise, random thoughts, etc.)

Art Of Keeping Secrets

Ask yourself,
How many lies we shared together?
How many secrets we kept apart?
Keeping broken hearts intact

We don't love each other
We just loved our representatives
Resenting the true you and me

I swear and then you swear
And I swear
When you know too much
It's no conversation with you
Like a circle you don't even have a point

Un-merrily going around the same issues
We don't care to address,
We simply dress them up, only to suppress them
Only to regret the next words out our mouths

So we hush,
But our silence won't protect us
And not happy is a silent home

Because we know the dreams we shared,
And the reality between us
The art of keeping secrets
