Come Back, Come Back.

It’s raining. Drip, drip, drip.
Lightest drizzle. Patter, patter.
Warm breeze. Swaying trees.
Rustle, rustle, rustle.
Hours later. Tick, tock.
Watching TV, news blaring.
Forecaster droning on.
Raining harder. Drop, drop, drop.
Slashing through air.
Violet flashes. Crack.
Blackest sky. Glaring streetlights.
Swirling leaves, fallen, fallen.
Uprooted trees. Mud.
Shaping branches, falling, falling.
Safely home, warm lights.
Looking out the window.
Howling wind, rattling panes.
Falling knives, silver-streaked windows.
Empty streets, closed doors.
Fractured seconds between stinging raindrops.
Sudden calm. Rising sun.
Flowing mud, squelch, squelch.
Flooding rivers, shattered windows.
Opened doors, curious faces.
Looking, looking, at the sky.
Shining sun, clear blue skies.
Still winds.
Sirens blaring. Searching, searching.
Coldest draft.
Gusts, gales, of moist air.
Sharp, piercing, falling blades.
Each a loud ping on the roof.
Screaming children at flares of light.
Whipping through the darkened sky.
Rolling thunder, loudest drums.
Rattling, rattling skulls.
Toppled trees, wild branches.
Lashing through air.
It’s raining. Drip, drip, drip.
Lightest drizzle. Patter, patter.
Warm breeze. Swaying trees.
Rustle, rustle, rustle.
Hours later. Tick, tock.
Sirens blaring, searching, searching.
Realize, realize.
I’m watching from beyond the clouds.
Finding me in the river.
Trying, trying.
Can’t.
Splish, splash.

Goodbye.

Come back, come back.
