Charles Ayitey Poems

There is an addiction in my soul
There stands a torment in my role
An addiction of uncertainty
A torment of certainty.
...

The days pass, years wane
All that beckons is the pain of yesterday
None but my fears will want to fade
As I stare the scare of tomorrow's day
...

Here I am again
One the precipice of dawn
The dawn of a new year
With my soul so drawn in fear
...

Some may call it a painful experience
To wretched families, a moment of vice
But what it truly is
Is an escape to eternal peace
...

Addiction! I Want To Be Free

There is an addiction in my soul
There stands a torment in my role
An addiction of uncertainty
A torment of certainty.

Trying to take the paths of reform
But all these paths lead me,
Is a trend to conform
To the addiction in me.

Just yesterday, I planned taking my life
Just yesterday, I cried losing everything
It's all but pain and strife
There is just nothing, nothing!

The older I grow, my chains get stronger
The farther I go, my battle gets tougher
It's nothing... but the addiction
That conforms me to my gravest situation

I try erasing my past
I sigh ending hard
But each step of my path
Leads me to chains of the dark

I want to be free!
I wish to see the blue skies
But no matter how hard I try
The wish to be free is just but a dream.
