Cash Onadele Poems

Rising early this morning, I half perched on the aged Iroko,
Looked up at the sky, even read the day’s weather, then relieved my bladder.
Wondering further on to the river, “would it rain or not? ”.
Interrupted by feathered rooster calls, I stopped thence, to resume my daily ablution.

I.
Tranquil outlook of the distant green undulating landscape,
Implacable yellow flowers dotingly caress the hills far away,
Branches sacredly flown, veils of the broad sweetness,
...

I.
From the tower top, I see your tail lit the tortious wick of hate,
Extinguishing innocent others in clear daylight,
Why do you hide your bile now; in shameful disgust?
...

Despite my state of mind, sometimes I think of the wonders of nature,
How it settles the terrible pains I bear in my sides,
Dyes of the clouds, across the dome; color shades and depth unimagined,
Its awesome reassurance, when the gentle breeze of wind greets,
...

(a gift to a friend, passing through)
I.
When I have given all of me, my body quakes,
What else can I do; if I make mistakes?

I.
Coconuts tried it without its water, tasteless,
Honeybees tried it without its sweetness, boring!
The snail tried it without its ringed shell, fried!

I.
So she went back to her old ways,
Still, I will love her freely,
For my anger has turned away.

I.
In your kindness I am satisfied,
Comforted in life’s raging sea of troubles,
Nurtured; where you quench my tiring thirst,

I.
This potion you have poured in me is not effete, I am strong,
Neither does it make me antisocial but retentive, I speak it loud
I can sit here but travel very far with lucid verses, dancing with my mind,

The cast off leaves after the Summer is undeniably, the Fall.
Litter this high, abound, covering every square of the ground.
The brownness of old green leaves, predominantly musky,
Awkwardly retaining the dews from the densely humid nights.

My dear country, I declare to you, I love you
A land of opportunities
For you are the very reason I want to wake up everyday.
If I wound your head by my poor character

You should carry no different appellation
Your gather-up confirm your adornments.
Beaded head, parrot styled brows,
Faintly nosed, high cheek bones,

Imagine looking into the blue sky, standing in the midday Sun,
There are no shadows, nothing to hide or hide from.
A loud voice in the midst of that heaven, shrouds you.
Many brides cannot walk up the aisle with their true story told.

The eyes betray the prowess of the locking damsel.
The slick posture portray confidence except finessed smiles,
Her gait, unpretentious as she strides across the ballroom,
Drawing onlookers’ smiles, looks and even perspiration.

April’s fools we were, loving strangers in another city
Driving in the twilight day and the dusky night, en-route home
A light roast for supper relaxed the tired company before showers.

We could be here forever
In each other’s arms, warm and cozy
But we belong to other people
How long can this last?

Spend life here, a damn betrayal of human decency
A quick impetus to learn temperance, facing the poor
Forcing a dark and melancholic imagination of truce
See for yourself, the carnage, waste and losses of human potential

What is this, I never experienced before?
Here, I thought I knew all to feel.
But you decreed your love and it is now established
You shone your light upon my ways, for I see clearly

The spirit of my nation, if are you awake, rise up to my call
Spend this hour with me
Let me say something sweet to your ears
For they deserve to hear the sweetness of my cares

There is a price to pay and some mothers do pay them.
In love with the fast talking, accented burly gentleman.
After her martial loss, it appeared a new start, heaven made.
Soon, she discovered the promise of her suitor wasn’t what it meant.

Ela L’oro

Rising early this morning, I half perched on the aged Iroko,
Looked up at the sky, even read the day’s weather, then relieved my bladder.
Wondering further on to the river, “would it rain or not? ”.
Interrupted by feathered rooster calls, I stopped thence, to resume my daily ablution.

As I knelt to take a lap of water in the cusp of my right hand,
Then, I received a question from the unusual friend,
Asking softly “what is the word? ”.
In response, I sharply retort “Ela l’oro” – is traditionally the word.
Then I meditated, “is that not life at the beginning of time? ” as told?

Wisdom hidden from the simple, even if it needs to be saved.
Cogitating, the word must be the true meaning of ordered events.
Also, this I declared “it’s an expression of the depth of our soulful desires”.
I inquired within as I arrived at the great rocks before the big river
.
Does Ela not command life of creepers of the land and fowls of the air?
Often activating emotions in living things and even celestials.
Ordinate into proper and desirable position all parts for good.
“Ela” - word must be cryptic, to be broken and unveiled.
Verses must be elucidated to common understanding.

May be, for centuries this is the expected toil of man on earth,
To decipher this code and apply it for its dimensional continued existence.
Ela, are you not truly beyond us, inordinate in our reality?
