clouds (3)

This is the third in a clouds Suite, all written about experiences, looking down at clouds while flying from Cleveland to Sarasota or vice versa. clouds (1) was published in June 2007 in the Cleveland Reader.

a world of sky,
of clouds,
below our airborne
Continental 737

rumpled,
scattering this level of the atmosphere
with a forest of shoulder to shoulder,
white broccoli
mist-trees

in the distance,
cloud cover, as smooth as a sea,
reflecting sunlight
like water;
and at it's border,
a humped range,
a cloud-hill,
reigning in the sparkling sea

above,
a few sparse clouds, dotting
a sky above the sky –
clouds
to the vague trees and sea and hills below,
all ruled by the sun
