012109A somebody watching

paces of unmeasured length
block light for a moment
mosquito scramble for thirst
driven away by thick smoke
footsteps, scattered dust mill
brown shoes and beige pants

sweats slowly drip through hair,
tense muscle, cotton fabric, air
bowed head succumbs to tears
with clinch fist, nobody notice
except a wiggle of brown tail
with devoted love; always there.
