What is the time? I asked the wall,
It didn't reply just gave a blank look
Pale white and uninteresting.
The clock's red illuminant signalled the time
Glowing in the darkness of the indigo night
Its slow flicker like a tired somnolent eye,
Marking time with its slow sentinel blinks.
Two am the minutes seem to flow as if
Their feet are mired in in treacle.
