Loneliness - Thoughts Of A Soldier

Desolation, dejection, depression – the after effects of prolonged isolation.
The restless mind – wanders into spiralling tunnels of thought.
Delving into realms of memories – one ought to have forgot.
Nostalgia and pleasant memories of “someone” – gently tug the strings of the heart.
Caress the mind and linger on as a sweet aftertaste – even after one had to depart
The lilting laughter of the children – the sweet kisses and the warm embraces
One longs to hear the voices – see, smell and touch their faces
But alas! Far away from one’s own – in a different crowd
Where the voices are stern, terse, tense – and often rather loud
One wonders when one shall be back – with the ‘one’ for whom he longs
Back to the place, the home, the hearth – to where he belongs.
