Remember When You Loved Me

Remember When you loved me….
Remember when you loved me,
All the skies were blue.
And you never remembered,
The things I didn't do.
You loved the way I looked at you,
And how I'd pull you in.
We'd talk of this great new life,
We were so eager to begin.

Remember when we'd sit and swing,
With coffee or iced tea.
And the happiness we shared,
Because you were there with me.
Your eyes would shyly sparkle,
I was paralyzed in your gaze.
Oh if I could return,
To that visual embrace.

Why did I not see thunder?
And the storm that I brought near.
That took away your safety.
And replaced it all with fear.
And now the storm has torn us up.
The fear has drawn you near.
It now holds you in its cold embrace
And controls your precious tears.

How much would my life be worth,
To slay that fowl beast therein.
To free your life and let you live,
From the clutches of that sin.
Then you can remember,
All the things you loved.
And give thanks to Jesus Christ,
And our father up above.

But now dear girl that has my heart,
I have searched and finally found.
That the beast that holds you every day,
In spells that can astound.
Has taken form and showed its face,
It is hideous as can be.
And the part that I fear most,
Is that the beast is me.

How hard a sight to look and see,
The despair welled up inside.
Where I hoped was light and goodness,
Was only foolish pride.
I know I must kill this beast,
To free you from its hold.
And so I must release your heart,
And live alone in cold.

So remember me for when you loved,
Remember all our joy.
Remember me when I was there,
A big dumb stupid boy.
Remember all the fun we had,
Remember all the blessings.
But please take the time to forget,
All the things that I was messing.

Remember to be yourself,
Remember god has sent you,
And given you two little girls,
And filled them with your virtues.
Your life itself is beautiful,
Your loving, kind, and giving.
Let the freedom from that awful beast,
Show you a life worth living.
