Andy Allan Poems

Mind absorbed in book,
a cryptic half-smile flitters,
for a moment;
emotions rush,
...

‘Coh-bac, coh-bac, coh-bac, coh-bac.'
Startled grouse voice their alarm
on the high path up over Lag Buidhe.
Swooping down the hillside,
...

On the shredded edge of vision,
rain-curtains pound the sodden earth.
Bough-shadows flail in gloom,
dim-grey is wrung from darkness.
...

Breath clouds blossom, disappear,
hard tractor ruts are dry.
Frozen fingers, drip-raw nose,
three cawing crows sail by.
...

Tough proud, enduring witness,
she has watched through passing time,
the lives of generations flow
beneath this hoary pine.
...

Awkward, shy, but unable to resist.
Laughter had drawn her to
the crumbling old pig-sty.
Protesting wire squealed
...

Turning The Page

Mind absorbed in book,
a cryptic half-smile flitters,
for a moment;
emotions rush,
whispering with your sigh.

Far away from here
your consciousness is flying;
awareness gone,
sucked someplace else
while locked in to the page.

On automatic,
fingers brush away the hair
that isn't there;
ephemeral,
like the void of your presence.

Pursed expectant lips,
impatient finger twitches
from book intense,
to hover, wait,
in unresolved suspense.
