Sad Little Love Story

You cannot begin to understand
all that I felt for you.
Despite your actions towards me
it's you that I thought I saw through.

Though my love for you overwhelmed my heart,
I let go of you before more damage was done.

You took advantage of a young girl
who was filled with hopes and dreams.
She sits in a corner sad,
confused and screams...

My life before you was pure
until you tempted me.
What am I saying? Was it me?
Who pursued you from the beginning?

I remember the day our love began.
I remember the moment you held my cheek in your hand.

As my heart pounded in my chest,
you drew me in closer
and we know the rest.

When our lips touched I couldn't speak.
I was frozen
but it was all that I dreamed.

Now years later I see how blinded by love I was.
My mind and my heart couldn't find a compromise.
Each had their own opinion,
stubborn each was.

As much as I sacrificed for you,
you couldn't love me the way I desired.
Our love had no future.
It was done.
It expired.

Although my heart fought a battle,
tired, wounded and bleeding.
My mind won the war
strong and still succeeding.

Looking back at our sad little love story,
I never should have given in.
