My Eyes Have Seen

My eyes have seen many a-things
Some, yet subtle, unpleasantries.
Lands, once take, now given back
For you see, I was once in Iraq.

The hatred in the eyes of my enemies.
The sight of death in the Euphrates.
Limbs, unattached, sit idly by.
The eyes of a man, knowing, die.

Children play on trash, adults smoke hashish,
Meanwhile, my friends and I find IED's.
We tried to keep these people safe.
All the while, unknowing, it was a waste.

'My son knows not of what I know because of you.'
A man said to me.
But his religion forces him to take another view.
My eyes have seen.
