There's No Escaping Family

It seems like I do plenty—
I sing and play guitar,
I try to get my homework done
and learn to drive a car.

I try to get my exercise
by biking all day long,
but I still hear it every day
for getting something wrong.

I still get yelled at all the time
for never helping out,
and when I don't take out the trash,
it's all I hear about.

My parents say they're going to start
to do the same amount
of work that I do every day
and see how THAT works out!

And when they say it, I'm just thinking:
'YOU guys are the ones
who thought to have four kids and hope
that it would all be fun....'

They thought their kids would follow rules
and never ask them 'Why? '
But I'll bet you when THEY were kids
they did the same as I.

My parents drive me up the wall,
They're utterly insane:
My mother makes me mental,
while my dad's a royal pain.

Mom says, 'Go do your homework, '
and Dad yells, 'Sweep the floors! '
Then Mom asks, 'Where's your brother? '
Dad hollers, 'Do your chores! '

With all of their complaining,
my brain begins to ache.
Dad shouts, 'Take out the compost! '
I go and grab the rake.

There's no escaping Family,
no matter how you try,
and in the end you've gotta learn
to do your chores or die.

And even though the words may hurt,
and shouts don't always rhyme,
I love my folks and they love me
until the end of time.
